Some Sentences from Oliver Twist

Reluctantly, he pushed the money across the table towards her, then bent forward to listen. The faces of the three nearly touched, as the two men leant over the table to hear what the woman had to say, and the woman leant over towards them so that they could hear her whisper. In the dim lamplight their faces looked pale and ghostly.


It was a night for the homeless to lie down and die; and for luckier people to sit close to their fires and thank God they were at home.


As they walked upstairs, there was a bright flash of lightning outside, followed by a loud thunder. They sat down and he started immediately.


As he was running past a pub in the main street, he accidentally bumped into a tall man in black coming out.The man stared at him.


"You treat me like a dog!"
